EPISODE 19 - "Black Swan" |  18   <<PREVIOUS    NEXT>>  20

ARPEGGIO

(ar-pej-jeo) Music. 1. The sounding of the notes of a chord in rapid succession instead of simultaneously. 2. A chord thus sounded. Also called a broken chord.

Episode 19: Black Swan

I envisioned "Black Swan" as an old school Delta Blues breakdown - simple, haunting and more ominous than it has a right to be... kinda like "When the Levee Breaks", the old standard we've linked below.

BLACK SWAN

Have no say
In what’s at stake
Hatch inside
A tempest egg

Black Swan tore the temple down
Black Swan tore
The temple down

Bring a storm
On thunder wings
Fallin’ stone
And broken things

Black Swan tore the temple down
Black Swan tore
The temple down

Watch your step
As owls pass
Rusty nails
And sliver glass

Black Swan tore the temple down
Black Swan tore
The temple down

Spill the keg
Of witch's brew
Be the one
Who speaks the truth

Black Swan tore the temple down
Black Swan tore
The temple down

POWERCHORDS - MAGIC, MUSIC & URBAN FANTASY

In my secret identity as game designer Phil Brucato, I've been the creative force behind Mage: The Ascension, The Sorcerers Crusade and Deliria - Faerie Tales for a New Millennium, among other game settings. These days, I have my own studio - Silver Satyr Studios, to be exact. And as our debut project works its way through layout, we're assembling sponsors to produce our next project: a new game supplement called POWERCHORDS - Magic, Music & Urban Fantasy.

An open-system sourcebook about rocking out on the fringes of reality, POWERCHORDS is planned to feature Meghan and other characters and elements from Arpeggio. All three Arpeggio creators are involved as well; I'm writing the book, Bryan's illustrating parts of it, and Sandi's editing and illustrating it as well.

To make this project happen, though, Silver Satyr needs your help. The link below has the details, but the scoop is this: Join our sponsorship circle and get cool stuff! You don't need to be rich, either. Sponsorships start at just a single US dollar.

The sponsors below have earned various goodies, including original flash fiction, copies of the book, characters and bands named after them, and more. Beyond that, they've also earned my gratitude. Take a bow, folks!

Allen Varney, Drew Bittner, Carla Hollar, David Burch, Karl Mazurak, Peter Aronson, Chris Gunning, Kaiu Keiichi, Adam Krump, Casidhe, Beth Fischi, Trevor Curtis, Matthew C.H. Rock on!

ARPEGGIO is copyright© 2010 by Satyr, Syme & Sandi. All original contents, characters and images – linked music notwithstanding - are licensed through creative commons: you may link to or share them with attribution, but don’t steal! It’s not nice, and it keeps starving artists... well, starving. Ripping off other people’s stuff is bad juju, and claiming that YOU created what someone else worked on is just lame. Thank you for not being a dick.
